Summary

The USS Amazônia began her life in 2371 as the USS Repulse, one of the first production-run Intrepid-class vessels.  While her sister ship Voyager became a legend in Stafleet and the Delta Quadrant, the Repulse spent the late 24th century as a reliable workhorse of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, serving with distinction during the latter half of the Dominion War and subsequent rebuilding efforts.

By 2401, the aging hull was slated for decommissioning. Her systems, though robust, were considered "legacy tech" in an era of Odyssey and Sovereign class dominance. The ship was sitting in a mothball fleet at Qualor II, stripped of her primary computer cores and awaiting scrap, when the Frontier Day disaster of 2402 decimated the fleet.

In the desperate scramble to rebuild a presence in deep space, Starfleet Command realized that the Intrepid class—specifically its landability and localized maintenance requirements—was perfectly suited for the isolated conditions of Project Bridgehead. The Repulse was towed to the San Francisco Yards for a "Final Block" refit. Every internal power conduit was replaced, bio-neural circuitry was integrated with 25th-century sympathetic stabilizers, and her tactical systems were brought up to modern standards. Upon her relaunch in 2403, she was rechristened the USS Amazônia, by her new commanding officer.
